We offer a variety of options to suit your needs so whether you are a small group or want to bring the whole school; whether you would like to do everything yourself or let us handle the stress of catering & programming; we are here to help.
All our programming staff are fully qualified and importantly, experienced in running our adventure pursuits, and EOTC programme. Our volunteers come to us for eight months to share with your students their passion for the outdoors. They are a mixture of oversea volunteer and local instructors who are passionate about the outdoors and working cross culturally.
By spending time together this strengthens your group relationships and as iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend (proverbs 27:17). It is a great place to share an adventure with people who matter to you and want the best for you.
Whether your group has 25 or 120 people, or even a larger groups, or maybe you are looking for a venue for your day-retreat, or a weekend, or even longer, we are the place for you. If you want a real camp experience, and not go glamping then our park like environment is for you. We have two awesome site at Waipara Adventure Centre on the banks of Waipara River and another at Birch Hill Lodge nestled into the Mount Richardson – Mount Thomas range.

With the option of utilising our catered or self-catered service, you can chose to come and run your own programme or use our fully qualified staff to run a wide range of adventure activities. We are licensed to operate rock climbing and abseiling anywhere in Canterbury or at our Centre at Waipara and we are OutdoorsMark approved.
Our aim is to give you a memorable experience whether by choosing to run your own programme, using our services or simply using our accommodation. The choice is yours so why don’t you contact us for your next youth group camp as we can guarantee you have a truly memorable time.
This course will be based on unit standard 451 Managing Risk for an Outdoor Recreation Activity and unit standard 13377 Identify and manage hazards and risk in relation to a recreation activity and environment. The goal is equipping volunteer, youth group leaders, Boys Brigade, Girls Brigade, Scouts, and Guides etc. to learn about creating a safe place to take those in their charge into the great outdoor safely. The course is designed to be a combination of lectures, scenarios, and peer learning. It is anticipated that WorkSafe NZ will give an overview of how the HSWA 2015 will impact on us.

At Waipara Adventure Centre full catering is provided or you may choose to self-cater. Our park like environment gives plenty of space to kick back and relax or roam, or you may chose an adventure package, or you could be looking for a venue to hold your own camp, retreat or conference. Whatever your need, our facilities give you plenty of scope to choose from.
Our camps are owned and operated by the Sure & Stedfast Development Trust trading as Waipara Adventure Centre and is not-for-profit, which means all income received go back into developing programmes, maintenance, and ongoing improvements to our adventure Centre and Birch Hill Lodge. Birch Hill Lodge is the gateway to Mount Richardson and Mount Thomas forest reserve and has many exciting walks, outdoor experience I.e. tube rafting Ashley Gorge, Mountain biking, tramping etc. Why not contact us about what we can offer.
We can design your camp, function or programme, or you may choose to do your own thing, or a combination of both. You may want to use our qualified instructors to run a birthday party, team building, adventure day, or maybe something more adventurous off site. We are registered under OutdoorsMark and WorkSafe NZ to operated rock climbing and abseiling anywhere in Canterbury, and our high ropes course based at our centre.
There are many attractions within a stone’s throw of Waipara Adventure Centre and two exciting walks are; Tiromoana Bush Track and Mount Cass Walkway, or you may like to ride the Weka Pass railway to Waikari, or bike the vineyard trail. Whatever you are seeking I am sure you will find it with us.
Involvement is the key to gaining interest and generating feedback and discussion. We can design strategies that will involve your whole group—no sitting and just listening. This is experiential learning. We give participants a common frame of reference to discuss each topic and relate it back to the workplace or organization.
